International Day for Universal Access to Information
September 28 · Level 9 · #388 of 2238

This day reminds us that everyone has the right to public-interest information and that governments and organisations should work openly. Without access to facts, it is hard to make sound decisions.
How it is celebrated: conferences, training workshops and online discussions explore freedom of information, open data and the digital divide. Libraries, journalists and civil society groups explain how to request the information you need.
UNESCO proclaimed the day in 2015, and the UN General Assembly endorsed it in 2019. Even earlier, from 2002, 28 September had been marked as Right to Know Day.
