International Safe Abortion Day
September 28 · Level 5 · #1275 of 2238

International Safe Abortion Day focuses on access to safe, legal medical care when a pregnancy is ended. It is used to talk about women's health and about how laws shape people's access to doctors.
How it is celebrated: health and rights organisations hold discussions, talks and information campaigns, and activists organise rallies. In several countries, a green scarf has become the symbol of the movement.
The day grew out of campaigning in Latin America and the Caribbean for the decriminalisation of abortion, and over the years it spread worldwide. The green scarf became especially well known through the campaign in Argentina.
