Victory Day in Türkiye

Türkiye’s Victory Day commemorates the 1922 victory at Dumlupınar, a decisive battle in the Turkish War of Independence. It honours Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and those who fought in the struggle that helped make the future republic possible.

How it is celebrated: wreath-laying ceremonies, military parades and concerts take place, while national flags decorate streets and homes. In Ankara, Atatürk’s mausoleum, Anıtkabir, is a focal point for commemorations.

The victory came before the republic itself: the Republic of Türkiye was proclaimed the following year, in 1923.
