Miners’ Day
August 30 · Level 6 · #920 of 2238
Miners’ Day honours the people who extract mineral resources underground. It recognizes demanding work and the importance of safety, dependable equipment and trust between colleagues working deep below the surface.
How it is celebrated: miners and industry veterans receive awards, while mining towns host concerts and community gatherings. Flowers are laid at memorials to miners who lost their lives, making remembrance part of the occasion.
This holiday moves around the calendar. Several former Soviet countries observe it on the last Sunday of August, rather than on a fixed date.
