Tolkien Reading Day
March 25 · Level 8 · #563 of 2238
Tolkien Reading Day invites everyone to pick up a book by the author of The Lord of the Rings and read a favourite page aloud. It was launched by the Tolkien Society so that fans around the world could visit Middle-earth together.
How it is celebrated: fans read passages aloud in schools, libraries and book clubs or online, and hold quizzes and gatherings in costume as elves, hobbits and wizards. Each year the Society suggests a theme to read around.
The date is no accident: in the story's chronology, 25 March is the day the One Ring was destroyed in Mount Doom and Sauron fell.
