Tick Tock Day
December 29 · Level 5 · #1182 of 2238

Tick Tock Day is a nod to clocks and to time racing toward the new year. It is a good moment to notice how quickly the months have flown by.
How it is celebrated: people listen to the sound of a wall clock or wristwatch, wind up a mechanical timepiece, check that every clock in the house agrees and look back over the year. Others simply enjoy the ticking and let themselves slow down.
The tick-tock sound comes from a clock's escapement, which lets the gear train advance one tooth at a time, and each click marks a tiny, equal slice of time.
