International Cello Day
December 29 · Level 4 · #1427 of 2238

A day for the cello, an instrument with a deep, almost human voice. Players, teachers and listeners use it to introduce as many people as possible to their favourite instrument.
How it is celebrated: cellists give concerts and open rehearsals, run masterclasses and post videos of their playing, while amateurs organise music evenings at home.
Bach's suites for solo cello were long treated as mere practice pieces until the young Pablo Casals found a copy in a second-hand music shop in Barcelona. He later made them a concert-hall classic.
