Teachers' Day in India
September 5 · Level 5 · #1148 of 2238
India's Teachers' Day thanks educators for the part they play in their students' lives. It falls on the birthday of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a philosopher and teacher who became the country's second president.
How it is celebrated: students make cards, stage performances and thank their mentors. In many schools, older pupils take over lessons for younger classes, getting a brief taste of life on the other side of the desk.
The observance began in 1962, the same year Radhakrishnan became president.
