Day of the Languages of the People of Kazakhstan
September 5 · Level 6 · #1071 of 2238

This observance celebrates Kazakhstan's linguistic diversity and respect for people's mother tongues. It highlights both Kazakh's role as the state language and the languages that different communities pass down through their families.
How it is celebrated: libraries, schools and cultural centres host poetry readings, literary events, exhibitions and language quizzes. Participants discover writing in different languages and try out their own language skills.
The date is the birthday of Akhmet Baitursynuly, an educator and linguist who reformed the Arabic-based writing system used for Kazakh.
