Spozhinki Harvest Festival

Spozhinki is a traditional celebration marking the end of the grain harvest, also known by related names such as obzhinki and dozhinki. After demanding fieldwork, communities gathered to give thanks and share a meal. Its timing varied with local customs and the ripening crops.

How it is celebrated: traditions include decorating the final sheaf, singing harvest songs and holding a communal feast. Folk celebrations recreate these practices through music and ceremonial performances.

The last sheaf could be kept indoors until the next sowing season. People believed it could carry the strength of one harvest into the next.
