Husband's Day in Iceland
January 23 · Level 1 · #2232 of 2238

Iceland's Husband's Day, Bóndadagur, is an occasion to treat husbands and male partners. It marks the opening of Þorri, a winter month in the old Icelandic calendar, bringing a little extra attention to relationships during the dark season.
How it is celebrated: partners give flowers, prepare a favourite meal or arrange dinner out. For some households, the occasion also introduces the season of traditional Icelandic winter feasts.
Its name translates roughly as Farmer's Day or Master of the Household's Day. The date moves: it falls on a Friday between 19 and 25 January, rather than always on the 23rd.
