Russian EMERCOM Inquiry Officers Day
January 23 · Level 6 · #1046 of 2238
This observance honours inquiry officers in Russia's Emergencies Ministry, EMERCOM. Their work involves investigating fires, establishing how they started and examining evidence of possible criminal offences after the immediate emergency has passed.
How it is celebrated: departments congratulate officers and veterans, present awards and reflect on demanding investigations. Professional gatherings also offer a chance to exchange experience in examining fire scenes and assessing evidence.
The most badly burned spot is not necessarily where a fire began. Investigators must compare burn patterns with the building's layout and witness accounts to reconstruct what happened.
