Señor de Luren Festival in Peru

The Señor de Luren festival is the biggest religious celebration in Ica, a city in southern Peru. Locals honour a revered image of the crucified Christ, coming to pray to it and give thanks.
How it is celebrated: services and prayers are held at the sanctuary, and then the image is carried out into the streets in a solemn procession. Pilgrims and believers from nearby towns walk alongside it, and for a few days the whole city turns into one big fiesta.
The main procession usually falls on the third Monday of October. Ica is also a well-known pisco and wine region, so visitors are welcomed with plenty of local hospitality.
