San Fermín Festival in Pamplona
July 6 · Level 10 · #197 of 2238

San Fermín fills the Spanish city of Pamplona with several days of celebration honoring Saint Fermín. Religious processions share the program with street music and the famous running of the bulls, which draws attention from around the world.
How it is celebrated: revelers wear white clothes and red neckerchiefs, welcome the opening rocket and watch parades of giant figures. Morning bull runs follow a fenced route through the streets to the bullring.
Ernest Hemingway helped introduce the festival to an international audience. Pamplona's celebrations provide a central setting for his novel The Sun Also Rises.
