Russian Military Peacekeeper Day
November 25 · Level 9 · #234 of 2238
Russian Military Peacekeeper Day honors servicemen who take part in peacekeeping operations and help hold the peace in conflict zones. It pays tribute to a service where weapons are meant to be the last resort.
How it is celebrated: solemn gatherings, awards and flower-laying ceremonies are held, units remember those who served in difficult regions, and peacekeeping veterans are thanked.
Russian servicemen were part of the UN peacekeeping forces in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Peacekeepers often do more than keep order: they also deliver humanitarian aid to local people.
