November 25 · Level 3 · #1641 of 2238

Accordionist's Day in Russia is a holiday for musicians who play the garmon and the bayan, and for everyone who keeps Russian folk music alive. The garmon has long been the heart of village celebrations.
How it is celebrated: concerts, contests and gatherings of players are held, craftsmen show off their instruments, and audiences happily join in with chastushka folk ditties.
The bayan is named after Boyan, the legendary bard mentioned in The Tale of Igor's Campaign. And Saratov was known for its garmon fitted with little bells that jingle as the player goes.
