Rudolf Maister Day in Slovenia
November 23 · Level 3 · #1667 of 2238

Rudolf Maister Day honors the Slovene officer and poet who took control of Maribor in November 1918 and helped secure Slovenia's northern border. He is remembered there as a national hero.
How it is celebrated: wreaths are laid at Maister's monuments, above all in Maribor, official ceremonies are held, and schools and museums retell the story of 1918 and 1919.
Maister wrote poetry under the pen name Vojanov, so Slovenia remembers him as both a soldier and a poet.
