Root Beer Float Day
August 6 · Level 3 · #1717 of 2238

This day is for the root beer float: a glass of root beer topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It is a classic American drink-meets-dessert, perfect for a hot day.
How it is celebrated: people make a frosty float at home, or drop into a retro diner or ice cream parlour for one. Some experiment with chocolate ice cream or add whipped cream and a cherry on top.
In the United States the treat is sometimes called a black cow. Root beer was traditionally flavoured with sassafras, but because of a compound called safrole, commercial American makers long ago switched to other flavourings.
