Rescuer’s Day in Ukraine
September 17 · Level 10 · #121 of 2238

Ukraine’s Rescuer’s Day honours firefighters, rescue workers and other civil protection personnel. It recognises the people who respond to fires, accidents and emergencies, often putting their own lives at risk to bring others to safety.
How it is celebrated: personnel receive awards and messages of thanks from colleagues, families and the public. Those who died on duty are remembered. Where conditions allow, services also arrange safety lessons and demonstrations of rescue equipment.
A rescuer’s work starts well before an emergency call. Preventing disasters and teaching people how to respond are also central parts of civil protection.
