Norwegian Constitution Day

Norway's national day celebrates the constitution adopted at Eidsvoll in 1814. Flags fill the streets, people dress for the occasion and children take a starring role in the festivities.

How it is celebrated: schoolchildren march with bands, while many adults wear traditional bunad clothing. Festive breakfasts bring friends and families together, and ice cream is a familiar treat for younger participants.

Children's parades are the day's signature event. In Oslo, the procession passes the Royal Palace, where members of the royal family traditionally greet the marchers from the balcony.
