International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

A day to draw attention to discrimination and violence against LGBT people and to stand up for everyone's right to live without fear or humiliation.

How it is celebrated: communities hold talks, exhibitions and meetings, rainbow flags go up, and organisations and employers publish statements in support of equality. The form varies by country, from public events to quiet online gatherings.

The date was chosen because on 17 May 1990 the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases.
