Russian Northern Fleet Day

Russian Northern Fleet Day honours sailors, shore personnel and veterans whose service is tied to northern waters. It is an occasion to revisit the fleet's history and the demands of operating in the Arctic.

How it is celebrated: naval communities hold ceremonial assemblies, award presentations and meetings with veterans. Flowers are laid at memorials, while museums and cultural venues arrange exhibitions and concerts.

During the Second World War, the Northern Fleet helped protect Arctic convoys carrying Allied supplies. These journeys faced a double challenge: enemy attacks and some of the harshest sea conditions on the supply routes.
