National Doctors' Day
March 30 · Level 3 · #1756 of 2238

National Doctors' Day in the United States recognizes physicians and the care they provide, from everyday appointments to complex operations. It gives patients and colleagues a chance to thank the people who explain difficult diagnoses, guide treatment and help families through uncertain moments.
How it is celebrated: people send cards and messages of appreciation, and healthcare organizations arrange celebrations for their doctors. Red carnations are a traditional symbol of the occasion.
The date recalls Crawford Long’s use of ether anesthesia during surgery in 1842. The first Doctors' Day celebration took place in Georgia in 1933.
