Ladybug Day
June 13 · Level 1 · #2212 of 2238

Ladybug Day is an informal excuse to take a closer look at these familiar little beetles, also known as ladybirds. Many species eat aphids and other small pests, making them welcome visitors in gardens.
How it is celebrated: nature enthusiasts look for and photograph the beetles, while children explore their lives through drawings and simple learning activities. A walk and a careful look at plant leaves can be enough to join in.
Counting a ladybug's spots will not tell you its age. Patterns can help identify species, although they vary, and some ladybugs have none of the familiar black spots at all.
