World Vegan Day
November 1 · Level 8 · #603 of 2238

World Vegan Day introduces veganism as an effort to avoid using animals for food and other purposes wherever practicable. It is a chance to discuss animal welfare and discover how familiar meals can work with plant-based ingredients.
How it is celebrated: community groups and cafés organise tastings, cooking events and educational activities. Participants swap recipes, explore plant-based foods and discuss the relationship between everyday choices and the treatment of animals.
The first World Vegan Day took place in 1994 to mark the Vegan Society's fiftieth anniversary. The word vegan dates to the society's founding in 1944, long before today's plant-based burger menus.
