International Stuttering Awareness Day
October 22 · Level 2 · #2005 of 2238

International Stuttering Awareness Day challenges misconceptions about stuttering and supports people’s right to be heard. It encourages listeners to give someone time to speak, without ridicule, pressure or finishing their sentences for them.
How it is celebrated: advocacy groups organise talks, webinars and public awareness campaigns. People who stutter share their experiences, while specialists and support groups discuss more welcoming classrooms, workplaces and everyday conversations.
First observed in 1998, the day puts awareness in its very name: changing how people listen is part of the occasion’s purpose.
