International Planetariums Day
May 7 · Level 3 · #1626 of 2238
International Planetariums Day shines a light on places where the night sky is on show in any weather, at any hour. Planetariums help people of all ages fall in love with astronomy.
How it is celebrated: planetariums hold open days, dome shows, talks by astronomers, and workshops for school groups and families.
The first modern star projector was built by engineers at Carl Zeiss and demonstrated in 1923 at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. Today domes use both classic optical projectors and digital systems.
