International Orthopaedic Nurses Day
October 30 · Level 4 · #1543 of 2238

This day honours the nurses who care for patients with injuries and conditions of the bones, joints and muscles. They help people get through surgery, recover and get back on their feet.
How it is celebrated: hospitals thank their colleagues, wards put on small tea and cake breaks, professional associations run training webinars and conferences, and grateful patients write kind notes.
The word orthopaedics was coined by the French physician Nicolas Andry, who used it as the title of a book in 1741. He built it from the Greek words for straight and child, because his aim was to help children grow up straight.
