International Hug Day
January 21 · Level 6 · #1047 of 2238

International Hug Day is an unofficial celebration of warm contact. It is a reason to hug family and friends, and to remind someone that they are not alone.
How it is celebrated: people hug relatives and colleagues, organise free hugs flash mobs and run small campaigns against loneliness.
The idea comes from the United States, where Kevin Zaborney came up with National Hug Day in 1986. The Free Hugs movement, started by Juan Mann in 2004, later made hugging in public famous worldwide.
