International Falafel Day
June 12 · Level 6 · #1117 of 2238

Falafel is a crunchy fried ball or patty of ground chickpeas or beans, and one of the Middle East's best-loved street foods. This day is an excuse to eat it happily and without guilt.
How it is celebrated: people stuff falafel into pita with hummus, tahini, fresh vegetables and pickles, or fry a batch at home with friends.
In Egypt falafel is called ta'amiya and is traditionally made from fava beans rather than chickpeas, which gives it a bright green inside thanks to fresh herbs.
