International E-Waste Day
October 14 · Level 7 · #730 of 2238
This day reminds us that old phones, chargers and appliances are waste that should not simply be thrown in the bin. They contain valuable materials as well as substances that harm nature.
How it is celebrated: organisations run collection drives, and schools and offices clear out their drawers and cupboards. People hand unwanted gadgets in for recycling or get working devices repaired.
The day was launched by the WEEE Forum, a body of electronics recycling organisations. According to UN-backed monitoring, the world produced about 62 million tonnes of e-waste in 2022.
