International Day of Marketing

A day for the people whose job is to help products and customers find each other. It is a reminder that marketing is more than advertising: it also means understanding needs, setting prices, choosing channels and talking honestly with buyers.

How it is celebrated: professional associations and companies host webinars, conferences and panel talks, and teams swap stories about campaigns that worked.

The classic idea of the four Ps, which are product, price, place and promotion, was put forward in 1960 by the American professor E. Jerome McCarthy. It is still one of the first things students meet in a marketing course.
