All-Russian Libraries Day
May 27 · Level 7 · #777 of 2238

All-Russian Libraries Day celebrates librarians, readers and the work of keeping knowledge accessible. It puts a spotlight on the expertise behind a useful catalogue, a carefully preserved volume or just the right book recommendation.
How it is celebrated: libraries welcome visitors for tours, author talks, displays of rare books and reading activities. Staff receive congratulations, while readers explore collections and services they may never have tried before.
The date commemorates the founding of the Imperial Public Library in Saint Petersburg in 1795. Now called the National Library of Russia, it holds one of the country's largest book collections.
