Cellophane Tape Day
May 27 · Level 1 · #2108 of 2238

A toast to a humble desk hero: clear sticky tape that wraps gifts, mends torn pages and lifts lint off a jacket.
How it is celebrated: people wrap presents, patch up things that have been broken for months, craft with kids and trade stories about the oddest repairs tape has ever pulled off. The day's great challenge is finding the end of the roll.
Clear cellophane tape was invented in 1930 by Richard Drew, an engineer at 3M. It caught on during the Great Depression, when people preferred to mend things rather than throw them away.
