International Day of Cooperatives
July 4 · Level 6 · #1060 of 2238
The International Day of Cooperatives celebrates businesses jointly owned and democratically controlled by their members. It highlights how working together can meet shared needs, from selling farm produce to providing services and housing.
How it is celebrated: cooperatives hold member gatherings, public events and educational activities. Participants share their projects and discuss how their organizations can better serve the surrounding community.
A central principle of a primary cooperative is one member, one vote. Decision-making power is not supposed to depend on how much capital a member has invested.
