International Brioche Day
May 14 · Level 2 · #1843 of 2238

This is a day for brioche, the soft French bread enriched with butter and eggs. People enjoy it at breakfast and as a base for desserts.
How it is celebrated: bakers make a loaf at home, others pick up a fresh one at the bakery and eat it with jam, chocolate or plain butter. Brioche also turns into French toast and burger buns, and a tasting of different fillings makes a good group activity.
The line "Let them eat brioche" is often pinned on Marie Antoinette, yet there is no evidence she said it. Rousseau described a similar remark in his Confessions when she was still a child.
