International Body Piercing Day
June 28 · Level 7 · #677 of 2238

International Body Piercing Day is a nod to jewellery worn in piercings and to doing it safely. It is also a chance to remember that people have been piercing ears, noses and lips for a very long time.
How it is celebrated: piercing fans pick out new jewellery and visit studios, piercers talk about sterile tools, aftercare and good-quality metals, and friends swap stories behind their favourite piercings.
Ötzi the Iceman, who lived about 5,300 years ago, had pierced earlobes, with the holes stretched to roughly a centimetre across.
