Don't Step on a Bee Day

A gentle reminder that bees often rest on lawns and clover, and a bare foot can easily hurt them. It is also a good excuse to remember how much these insects do for gardens and farms.

How it is celebrated: people wear shoes on the grass, put off mowing the clover and dandelions, plant nectar-rich flowers and leave a shallow dish of water out for thirsty insects.

A honey bee has a barbed stinger, so after stinging a person it usually dies. Stepping on a bee is a bad deal for both sides.
