Portugal Day
June 10 · Level 7 · #847 of 2238
Portugal Day celebrates national culture, the poet Luís de Camões and the country's connections with Portuguese people abroad. It is an occasion for a community whose shared history reaches well beyond Portugal's borders.
How it is celebrated: official ceremonies, military commemorations, concerts and cultural gatherings mark the day. Portuguese communities overseas also celebrate with music, food and public events.
Portuguese communities are explicitly included in the holiday's full official name. Its date commemorates the death of Camões, whose epic poem recounts Vasco da Gama's voyage.
