Slavic Literacy and Culture Day

Slavic Literacy and Culture Day honours the written traditions of Slavic languages and the legacy of Cyril and Methodius. It celebrates learning, literature and the people who help stories and knowledge travel from one generation to the next.

How it is celebrated: schools, libraries and cultural institutions host readings, concerts and book exhibitions. Church services commemorate the two brothers, with the balance of religious and civic celebrations varying between countries.

The alphabet associated with Cyril's own work is Glagolitic. Cyrillic bears his name, but developed later among the brothers' followers.
