Oil Workers' Day
September 6 · Level 9 · #319 of 2238

Oil Workers' Day recognizes the people who find oil deposits, operate wells, transport crude and turn it into useful products. It is a celebration of an entire chain of skills, including geology, engineering and work at refineries.
How it is celebrated: employers present awards, thank their teams and welcome retired colleagues. Oil-producing towns also hold concerts, sports events and activities for families.
The familiar name leaves out half the story: in Russia, the official observance covers both the oil and gas industries, so gas workers share the occasion.
