Battle of Grunwald Day

Battle of Grunwald Day commemorates the 1410 victory of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania over the Teutonic Order. The battle remains an important shared historical memory in Poland and Lithuania.

How it is celebrated: commemorative ceremonies, exhibitions and guided visits explore the battle and its era. A large reenactment near the battlefield in Poland brings together medieval costumes, encampments and staged combat.

The Lithuanian name for the battle, Žalgiris, means “green forest.” It also lives on in the names of prominent Lithuanian sports clubs, giving a medieval event a very visible place in modern sporting life.
