Defenders of the Motherland Day in Uzbekistan
January 14 · Level 10 · #178 of 2238
Uzbekistan honours its service members and the formation of its national armed forces on Defenders of the Motherland Day. It is also an occasion to recognise veterans and remember those who died while serving.
How it is celebrated: ceremonies, concerts and wreath-laying events bring military personnel and the public together. Awards recognise service, and educational institutions host meetings with members of the armed forces.
The date marks a specific step towards establishing the national military: on 14 January 1992, Uzbekistan placed military units and military educational institutions on its territory under its own jurisdiction.
