Butterfly Day in Russia
June 19 · Level 3 · #1616 of 2238

This is an informal nature day in honour of butterflies, the delicate residents of meadows and helpful pollinators of plants. It invites people to watch their step and protect the places where butterflies live.
How it is celebrated: entomologists and nature lovers give talks, lead walks through meadows and parks, count butterflies and learn to tell species apart, while children draw them and fold paper ones.
One of the best-known long-distance travellers is the painted lady: across several generations, its descendants fly thousands of kilometres between Europe and Africa.
