King Abdullah II's Accession Day
June 9 · Level 9 · #363 of 2238
Jordan marks this occasion in honour of King Abdullah II and the anniversary of his ceremonial accession. It celebrates the Hashemite monarchy and its role in the country's national life.
How it is celebrated: official ceremonies and community events mark the occasion, with Jordanian flags displayed in public places. Congratulations and television programmes reflect on the king's reign.
Abdullah II actually became king in February 1999, following the death of his father, King Hussein. The June observance commemorates the later ceremony, so the two anniversaries fall in different months.
