Zimbabwe Heroes' Day
August 10 · Level 8 · #604 of 2238
Zimbabwe's Heroes' Day honours those who fought for independence and others recognised as national heroes. It brings the country's liberation history into focus through remembrance of the people who shaped it.
How it is celebrated: the main state ceremony takes place at National Heroes Acre in Harare. Officials, veterans and bereaved families gather for wreath-laying, commemorative speeches and songs associated with the liberation struggle.
North Korean specialists helped create the Harare memorial. Its monumental design preserves an unexpected connection between the two countries.
