Global Wind Day
June 15 · Level 6 · #1019 of 2238
Global Wind Day introduces people to wind power and its place in electricity generation. It is a chance to discover how moving air supplies energy to homes and businesses, and why turbines are installed both on land and out at sea.
How it is celebrated: organisers offer wind farm visits, public talks and educational activities for children. Industry specialists explain how turbines work and answer questions about generating electricity from wind.
The event began as a European initiative in 2007 and became worldwide in 2009. Its own story is one of a local idea reaching a much wider audience.
