World Snorkeling Day
July 30 · Level 5 · #1332 of 2238

World Snorkeling Day celebrates floating on the surface with a mask and a breathing tube, peering at fish and corals without any scuba gear. A simple kit and a bit of curiosity are enough to meet the sea up close.
How it is celebrated: fans head to reefs, quiet bays and clear lakes, while beginners try it in shallow water with a buddy or an instructor. Many also share reef-friendly rules, such as not touching corals and taking all litter home.
The word snorkel comes from German: Schnorchel was the name for the air-intake tube on submarines in the Second World War.
