World Ranger Day
July 31 · Level 8 · #642 of 2238
World Ranger Day recognises the people who protect parks and wildlife reserves, while remembering rangers who have died on duty. It brings attention to the everyday work behind the landscapes and wildlife visitors come to enjoy.
How it is celebrated: parks host talks and guided activities, conservation groups raise funds for rangers and their families, and colleagues hold remembrance ceremonies.
A ranger's toolkit goes well beyond anti-poaching patrols: the job can involve monitoring wildlife, finding lost visitors and fighting wildfires.
