Unusual Musical Instruments Day
July 31 · Level 6 · #1035 of 2238
This informal observance invites listeners to explore instruments beyond the familiar concert lineup. Rare traditional instruments, historical inventions and homemade experiments reveal just how many ways people have found to make music.
How it is celebrated: enthusiasts share recordings, watch unusual instruments in performance and experiment with simple sound-making objects of their own. Curiosity matters more than musical training.
The theremin can be played without touching it at all. Moving your hands near its antennas controls pitch and volume, making a performance look rather like conducting an invisible orchestra.
